The clients objective was to create a new major Catering Facility (comprising function suites at levels 2 and 3 of the existing Barclay End stand to accommodate a total of 1000 people) for the start of the forthcoming season. The scheme involved the re-location of existing stairs, turnstiles, and service lift and the creation of space for new catering facilities for Delia Smith's Department all within a purpose built extension. Fit out by others
and was completed within close season 2000 - a period of 7 months to obtain planning, arrange service diversions and build and fit out a substantial extension to an existing stand - complying with all relevant legsislation. The objective was achieved and the project won an Norfolk Association of Architects Craftsmanship Award which was partcularly pleasing given the timescale - see Awards.
The inital brefing took place in February 2000
Our contracting background – see milestones - has generated a ‘can do’ attitude to such challenges, born from the pressures of working to the demands of retail clients’ time frames. A client with an open mind to procurement techniques, the use of ‘Off Site Fabrication’ techniques and round the clock working 7 days a week can compress any timeframe. We enjoy the challenge of endeavouring to produce something exceptional whilst under pressure.
We decided that in this instance the best way to achieve the programme was to work with a reliable local contractor using a management form of contract with an exceptionally high proportion of the works pre-fabricated including the foundation solution.
This allowed the shell to be made water-tight to enable internal fit-out to take place.
